Preparing Your Garden – Ready The Soil – Part 1

Here we are – Day 3. How are you feeling today? Anxious, excited? Nervous about how God is going to Ready Your Soil? It can make you feel a little uneasy and uncomfortable but guess what? That is normal. Especially if you are trying to strengthen your relationship with Christ from a not-so-close relationship. Perhaps you have a steady relationship with Him already but you know you have some sins in your life that are keeping Him from being able to do all of the work He wants to do in you and in your life. Do not be scared or timid, my friends. You are safe in His hands, I promise. I know how it feels, though, to be SO ready to let Him dig out all of the crud in your life, but to also be nervous because of the unknown ‘You’ that you will become. You will not miss the old you! Believe that!

Also, since I am writing and publishing these articles in the evenings, think about them throughout the next day and implement what you read tonight, tomorrow.

Let us begin Day -3 by reading Luke 8:4-8.

While a large crowd was gathering and people were coming to Jesus from town after town, He told this parable: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds ate it up. Some fell on rocky ground, and when it came up, the plants withered because they had no moisture. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up with it and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown.”

Do you see why our soil is so important? No matter how great the seed is, if we plant it on rocky ground and among thorns, it will not flourish into what we thought it would be. The seed of God that is sown into the good soil is the only seed that bears fruit. What does the “good and honest” heart look like? What kind of hearer is this? This is the one that upon hearing the word of God takes it to heart, listens, repents, believes, and obeys. This is the heart in which the seed takes root, grows, and produces fruit that matures.

Take note to this, Beloveds: When He says ‘repent’, he means to actually turn away from that sin; to stop doing it! Some believers live their lives knowing that by the blood shed of Jesus we are forgiven and that it must mean that no matter what we do, what sin we commit, we are just forgiven and there is no need for repentance. Well, let me tell you that there is and it is a big need! If you have questions about repentance, message me. If I have enough questions, I will write about repentance specifically.

How do you receive Gods word?

Jesus tells us this parable to help us examine ourselves: Do I have ears to hear? Do I have a heart that is able to respond to the word of God in repentance, belief, and obedience?

That is a great question, Lord. Do we? Do I? As I look back on my life as a Christian, I realized that during the first 11 -12 years the weeds (sin) of the world and within myself choked out the word of God. I loved the things of the world. I loved the high of using my drug of choice but not the drug addict I became. I loved myself and ONLY myself. “Real life” was too important. Gods word had fallen onto the ground of my heart and began to grow, but the worries, sins, lusts, anger, resentments, and concerns of this world and of my heart far outweighed the importance of God and His kingdom. Thankfully God didn’t leave me there nodding out in an apartment alone just wanting to die and He didn’t leave me in my abusive, drug driven relationship; He rescued me. It was as if He took a rototiller to my heart. But that wouldn’t have been enough. He completely replaced my heart with a new one. That was scary, His Beloveds. Who was I going to be if I wasn’t a drug addict? (I’ve been clean for 6 years) What does a new heart feel like? Will I like myself? What He did with the seed He sowed into my new heart was nurture it so it took root and grew. Since that day this new heart responds so differently to His word. It delights in the law of the Lord!

Psalm 1: Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whole leaf does not wither-whatever they do prospers.

Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgement, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.

“If you know about DESTRUCTION, raise your hand!” Yes, sing it just like If You’re Happy and You Know it. If your heart delights in God and His word, praise and thank Him! Thank Him for the great and immeasurable gift that He has given to you and nurture that gift! If your heart does not delight in the law of the Lord, do not despair, do not give up, and do not walk away. Confess it to the Lord. He is so understanding. No one has the power to make the soil of their good. Ask god to forgive you and cleanse you of all unrighteousness. “Lord, let your living words penetrate our hearts and produce a full harvest of righteousness!”

Over the next several weeks, take Gods word to your heart and ask Him to help you receive it by faith and then bring it to life through obedience. Ask Him to help you bear a full harvest of righteousness. Don’t be shy, He is right next to you just waiting. If you don’t know how to pray or feel uncomfortable – tell Him that! He knows you! None of those thoughts or feelings are hidden. Just lay yourself out to Him as an open book; more like a scattered puzzle and tell Him you are ready to hand yourself over and let Him put you back together.

Turning Wounds Into Wisdom,

You Him and Her

    1. Repent, turn, and learn. I love it! It’s so true. It took me a long time to understand want repentance actually means. But once I knew, it was over. The transformation He has made in me in such a short amount of time has been incredible and I could never turn back. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Joe.

    2. He says “repent, and sin no more”. I used to repent asking forgiveness, and then when faced with the very same thing the next time… I gave in to that sin. We as Christians, cannot experience growth by insanity. I’m so glad to see you here with us Joe.
