What is temptation?
Well, according to Google, temptation is a desire to do something, especially something wrong or unwise. We have all had those desires to do something we aren’t suppose to do or that we know isn’t right. So how do we combat those temptations?
First, you need to know that temptation is the very first weapon that Satan uses against us to gain access into our lives. He uses this method to encourage us to sin, which gives him access into our lives. Think back to Eve for a moment. Satan did not have a place in Eve, so what did he do? He tempted her to sin in order for him to have a place in her.
We can all expect some temptations to come our way when Satan wants to gain more grounds in our lives. If he is able to manipulate us, he has a place to operate; within us. Once you realize that you have been manipulated by temptation and have sinned, it is very important to turn from those sins and repent so that he no longer has grounds to stand on in your life.
How do we resist this weapon?
“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh (near) to God, and he will draw nigh (near) to you. Cleanse your hands, -ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.” James 4:7-8
How do we break this power?
Okay, so how do we draw near to God and break the power of sin? We grow in our relationship with Him. We come to know the love our Heavenly Father has for us, and in doing so, our love for Him will grow on its own. We will begin to love things that He loves (things we didn’t really see love for before) and hate the things that He hates (the sinful things we love to do because they make us feel good or happy momentarily). Once we develop a hatred for sin, the power it holds will shatter and will be no more.
God tempts no one!
“When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.” James 1:13-15
Satan provokes in all directions to induce us to disregard both the Word and works of God. He tears us away from faith, love, and hope and brings us into despair. The enemy never becomes tired, when one temptation fails, there will always be another one arising. When he leads us into temptation, we have to remember that we have the power and strength to resist. We cannot escape temptation and allurements while we live in the flesh, but we can pray that we may not be drowned in them.
Call out to God and run to the throne of grace when you are tempted. Grace is God-given ability; His will and favor, kindness, mercy and love. It is the influence of God in us to strengthen and improve. It is essential, we need it.
Compulsive Sinning: When you feel you can’t break free.
If you try to break free of the sin that is tormenting your life but you just cannot move forward, there may be a demonic bondage that needs to addressed. Most people that cannot break free of their sin/s are dealing with demonic spirits of pornography, anger, jealousy, etc. These are not easy or simple to just “get rid of” but you are CAPABLE of doing so with more knowledge of His word and His promises. He tells us how to rid these strongholds and be free of demonic bondage, we just have to read His word.
I will be writing a piece on spiritual warfare and bondage to share and explain how I have been able to overcome some of my own and how you can overcome yours.
